Idea

A world that breathes with you

HP Omnicept Lab — mind training, in the zone

A headset that feels your heartbeat — and a world that breathes with you.

Zen by Z, a biofeedback demo for the HP Omnicept headset, shown at GDC. The idea: let the body drive the world. Heart rate, eye tracking and cognitive load steer a mind-training journey — calm forest, floating rock, a controlled disruption, then recovery. Designed, built and coded in Unity.

Designing the calm

…and the disruption

The storyboard — disrupt, then recover

Screen choreography — ambient forest, disruption event, recovery factor

Screen choreography — forest, disruption, recovery

Recovery factor curves — breathing and heartbeat returning to control

The recovery factor — breath brings you back

Built, not just drawn

The disruption — spiders, red light, gaze burn

The team

All projects are always team work. In this team I helped build the vision, built the prototypes, and presented with Dr Erika Siegel at the Game Developers Conference.

This Unity demonstrator space was custom-built to show the cognitive-loading simulation potential — a collaboration with Dr Siegel and Tico Ballagas, who guided the biofeedback science.
