Metagro Y-truck

The brief, from Mr De Jong of Metagro, Ammerstol: design a roll-on / roll-off terminal tractor for the harbour. From those first marker renders came the lines and the face of the whole truck — the front, the number arena, the motor-cover pods, not only the cab. The innovations and design lines from that original concept became the core of the globally successful Terberg yard tractor — and helped drive the company's surge in market share across the segment.

Clean railings, clean lines — and one detail that paid for itself. Earlier cabs mounted the door stop low, near the floor, where hard braking could wrench a door off its hinges. Moving the stop to the centre of the door — carried on the handrail, exactly where the force lands — cost less to build and made the cab markedly more robust.
